My New ‘Dementia Adventure’
Today I am 47!
I wanted to give myself a birthday present by taking this opportunity to thank YOU (all my friends, family and colleagues) for your support during a pretty tough year for the Partingtons. It has been really comforting and therapeutic to be able to ‘share stuff’ with such a caring and open minded audience.
As many of you know, I have poured out my entire life via Facebook (and my blog) over the last 12 months. I have tried to keep things real, make you laugh, make you cry, teach some things, learn some things, mix things up, engage you and hopefully entertain you.
I also wanted to use today to share some news that is personal, but also very public. I am about to attempt to ‘make a difference’ on a pretty big scale with no safety net.
I have agreed to be involved in a documentary for Alzheimers Australia (pending funding approval) to tell our family story and hopefully help other families impacted by Dementia. They will be following our journey as a family, my experiences at the nursing home and the transformation of Sydney Street to a ‘dementia friendly’ business.
I am also going to be doing public speaking engagements to raise awareness and reduce the stigma about Dementia (as we are actually experiencing it). Scary stuff..but an awesome personal challenge.
On another note, I have decided to become a writer in my spare time. I have some ideas for some books I want to write (various topics).
If anyone has any advice or contacts that can help me in this area (and get me started) I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for putting up with me on Facebook
Cheers
Brett (Mr Dementia)
